Seno: Gorgadji Women Are Committed to Their Children’s Academic Success

Seno: The Association for the Promotion of Women and Children in the Sahel (APFES) organized a meeting with women from the commune of Gorgadji in collaboration with the Basic Education District (CEB). This activity focused on the crucial role of mothers in children's academic success.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the meeting's main objective was to strengthen women's contribution to children's access to, retention in, and success in school. The agenda included a presentation on mothers' educational responsibilities, both within the home and in relation to school.

The Head of the Basic Education District (CCEB) of Gorgadji, Ahmed Abdoulaye Cisse, and the President of APFES, Djeneba Diallo/Kindo, addressed the participants about good practices to adopt to effectively support children's schooling. The communicators stressed the importance for women to regularly monitor their children's academic progress, ensure their attendance and discipline, and create a learning-friendly environment at home.

They also urged mothers to strengthen their collaboration with teachers in order to jointly address the challenges related to education in a context marked by numerous difficulties. According to Mr. Cisse, "school cannot succeed without the active involvement of parents, especially mothers, who constitute the first pillar of education."

Ms. Diallo emphasized that women's empowerment and accountability remain essential for ensuring a better future for children in the Sahel. Following the discussions, the women of Gorgadji made a firm commitment to support teachers in their work. To this end, they decided to mobilize both financially and materially to provide concrete support for the operation of the community's schools.

This commitment was welcomed by the educational leaders present, who saw it as a strong signal in favor of improving academic performance and combating student dropout. Alongside the main activity, the Gorgadji community met in the afternoon to consider a request from the CEB regarding the need to bolster the teaching staff with community volunteers. The request was met with a positive response, with the community committing to support five teachers for a period of five months.

Administrative and educational authorities commended all these initiatives, which reflect the resilience, patriotism, and strong sense of responsibility of the Gorgadji community. They also paid tribute to the Defense and Security Forces (FDS) and the Volunteers for the Defense of the Homeland (VDP), whose efforts ensure the security and continuity of educational activities in the area.
