Sourgou Town Hall Fosters Civic and Patriotic Engagement Among Students

Sourgou: In an effort to instill civic and patriotic values in the younger generation, Sourgou town hall organized an educational conference as part of the Days of Patriotic Commitment and Citizen Participation (JEPPC). The event took place on Thursday, April 9, at the community hall, targeting students from the municipal high school and the public college.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the initiative was designed to raise awareness among young people about their civic responsibilities and their pivotal role in the Progressive and Popular Revolution (RPP). The conference was led by Alassane Sawadogo, coordinator of the Homeland Liberation Front, alongside Pakisba Kinda, a land development officer at the town hall. Their goal was to enlighten students about not just their rights but, more importantly, their duties as agents of social change.

Discussions during the event revolved around "The Role of Pupils and Students in the Progressive and Popular Revolution." The speakers highlighted key topics such as discipline, respect for institutions, community engagement, and individual responsibility in local development. They asserted that the success of the RPP (Rural Planning Program) relies heavily on the active participation of young people, who are seen as a force capable of influencing society positively through academic excellence and strong patriotism.

Students were encouraged to adopt responsible attitudes by steering away from "negative values" like violence, cheating, and incivility. The promotion of solidarity and mutual respect was emphasized throughout the event. An interactive session allowed participants to voice their concerns, contributing to a rich and constructive dialogue.

The event's significance was further highlighted by the presence of traditional authorities, who imparted their blessings on the community and the speakers. They urged students to listen attentively and embrace the ideals of the Revolution fully.

Through this initiative, the Sourgou town hall reaffirms its dedication to supporting the civic and moral education of the nation's future leaders. The town hall plans to establish similar frameworks for exchange to strengthen the connection between local institutions and young people.
