Typhoid Vaccination: High Commissioner Calls for Community Leaders’ Involvement for Success


Koup©la: The High Commissioner of the Kourittenga province, Moctar Ilboudo, requested the involvement of community leaders for the success of the vaccination campaign against typhoid fever, which targets children aged 9 months to 14 years. This appeal was made during an advocacy workshop organized by the Koup©la health district.



According to Burkina Information Agency, the workshop held on January 21, 2025, in Koup©la featured a presentation by the management team of the Koup©la health district, followed by a discussion session. This allowed participants to gain a comprehensive understanding of the campaign’s objectives and logistics.



The High Commissioner urged community leaders and parents to actively participate in ensuring the campaign’s success, scheduled for January 23 to 29, 2025. The campaign aims to benefit children aged 9 months to 14 years and requires the mobilization of communities to facilitate vaccinations.



Marie-No«l D©sir© Lofo, a representative of the Catholic community in Koup©la, expressed commitment to spreading information within communities and encouraging the mobilization of populations to ensure children are available for vaccination. This collective effort is aimed at achieving a successful campaign in the province.



The Chief Medical Officer of the Koup©la Health District, Check Omar Sawadogo, highlighted the importance of the meeting in garnering support from stakeholders and authorities. He emphasized that the campaign, running from January 23 to 29, will see health workers administering vaccines to the targeted age group, which studies have shown to be the most vulnerable to typhoid fever.



He further noted that the government’s initiative to vaccinate this demographic is a significant step towards effectively combating the disease.
