Ouagadougou: The U15 Cascades region team won the football final of the Union of School and University Sports of Burkina Faso (USSU-BF) on Saturday in Koudougou, beating the Central Plateau team by a narrow score of 1 goal to 0, AIB noted.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the match took place on the pitch of Centre A school in Koudougou, consisting of two 30-minute halves. The game initially appeared balanced, with both teams showcasing their skills. However, the momentum gradually shifted in favor of the Cascades team, who demonstrated significant strength in their lineup. Despite Plateau Central's resilience in the first half, resulting in a 0-0 scoreline, the Cascades emerged stronger after the break.
Adama Coulibaly, a key striker for Cascades, broke through the opposing defense, surpassing the Plateau sweeper to score the decisive goal in the 35th minute. As the game intensified, Plateau Central's attempts to equalize were unsuccessful. Coulibaly came close to extending the lead with a shot that hit the left post in the 55th minute. Ultimately, the score remained 1-0 until the final whistle.
Cascades coach Moumouni Traor©, who also coaches US Como© in Burkina Faso Ligue 1, attributed the victory to his team's effective gameplay and physical preparedness. Traor© highlighted that the draw favored Cascades, allowing them to maintain their players' energy levels and gain an advantage over their opponents.
On the other hand, Plateau Central coach Ilboudo Kiswendsida Davy noted that the physical size of his players was a factor in their defeat. Despite the challenge, he expressed pride in his team's performance, emphasizing their achievement of reaching the finals in their first participation. He commended his players for their efforts and resilience throughout the match.
The final stages of the USSU-BF 2025 event will continue with wrestling and handball finals. The Minister of Sports, Roland Somda, is scheduled to officially close the activities following these events.
