Cinkanse: Young leaders from Cinkanse, in the commune of Yargatenga, Koulpelogo province, in collaboration with the BRICS project, launched the Days for the Promotion of Living Together and Social Cohesion on Friday. The event began with a women's cycling race won by Maria Sannane, in the presence of numerous community members and local authorities.
According to Burkina Information Agency, Abraham Guessongo, representing the president of the Yargatenga special delegation, officially launched this series of activities aimed at strengthening social cohesion in this border area. The opening ceremony brought together representatives of traditional and religious authorities, BRICS project officials, defense and security forces, as well as women's and youth organizations.
The BRICS project, Building and Rebuilding Infrastructure for Social Cohesion, is implemented by the Danish Refugee Council and its partners, focusing on stabilization, prevention of social crises, and strengthening community collaboration in the Nakambe region. Boukari Ouedraogo, representative of the Danish Refugee Council, stated, 'Sport is a tool for cohesion. It brings communities together and strengthens trust. This women's cycling race is a perfect example.' He commended the participants and expressed gratitude to local authorities for their support.
A total of 25 women from several neighborhoods of Cinkanse participated in the race. The top-ranked participants each received a bicycle at the end of the event. The winner, Maria Sannane, expressed her satisfaction and thanked the organizers, highlighting the initiative's role in strengthening women's participation in social cohesion activities.
Yaya Guessongo, president of the Cinkanse youth leaders, emphasized the importance of strengthening ties between the people of Cinkanse Burkina Faso and Cinkanse Togo, addressing challenges related to cross-border mobility and resource management. He urged communities to promote peaceful coexistence.
The Days for promoting living together continue with a film screening and discussion, a community dialogue, and a gala match bringing together young people from both sides of the border. According to the organizers, these activities will help strengthen trust, dialogue, and collaboration between local communities.
