Ouagadougou: The discontent of the citizen watch following accusations of abuse by the Burkinabè army and the sit-in by LONAB staff, are the main subjects covered in the columns of the newspapers on Monday 10 June 2024.
‘Crisis at LONAB, staff call for intervention from the head of state’, headlines the state daily Sidwaya.
The daily indicates that workers and the sales force of the national games of chance hosted a press point last Friday to call on the highest authorities to look into the crisis.
On the same subject, the private daily L’Observateur Paalga, informs that the staff and sales force of the state company observed a work stoppage on Friday June 7, 2024 to denounce “the discourteous remarks and allegations made by the minister in charge of finance against them.
In another register, the citizen watch demonstration against the allegations of massacre of civilians by the national army.
In this regard, the public newspaper Sidwaya writes that the national coordination of citizen watch associations
expressed before the United Nations headquarters its dissatisfaction with the UN declarations on supposed abuses against civilians by the FDS and VDP.
According to the demonstrators, reports the newspaper of all Burkinabè, these accusations by the High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Turk, are perceived as an unjustified and biased attack against the efforts of Burkinabè fighters in the fight against terrorism.
In the same vein, L’Observateur Paalga, writes that the demonstrators have on occasion ‘requested that these accusations be publicly withdrawn to restore the honor’ of the army of the country of honest men.
For its part, the newspaper Le Pays indicates that a letter was given to the acting resident representative of the United Nations system, who promised to pass it on to whom it may concern.
