50 Social Housing Units Constructed in Moami for Internally Displaced Persons

Bobo-dioulasso: 50 social housing units have been constructed in Moami, a locality within the urban commune of Bobo-Dioulasso, to provide dignified living conditions for internally displaced persons (IDPs) and host communities. The regional director of Family and Solidarity of Guiriko, Olle Kam, shared on Monday that this initiative aims to support those displaced due to insecurity in the region.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the 50 housing units in Moami, of which 47 are completed and three are under construction, are part of an emergency project designed to offer decent housing for IDPs and vulnerable host communities. Olle Kam highlighted the importance of this initiative during a site visit with journalists, emphasizing the need for resettling displaced individuals back into their communities.

Kam noted that the government plans to build 1,000 social housing units across Burkina Faso, with 50 allocated for the Guiriko region. The site in Moami, situated 25 km from Sya, was provided by the local community and customary chiefs. The project includes a commitment to construct 35 homes funded by the ministry and 15 by community contributions, totaling 50 villas.

The regional director praised the swift understanding and support from local communities, resulting in 28 housing units contributed by them and 22 financed by the ministry. The beneficiaries will include IDPs who have returned or been resettled, as well as vulnerable host populations. Kam mentioned that a multi-sectoral committee will be established to determine the criteria for housing allocation.

Olle Kam expressed gratitude for the Ministry of Family and Solidarity's project, which addresses a critical need. He encouraged local communities to support this effort for their collective well-being. The 50 Moami housing units are type F1, built on a 2-hectare area, with an estimated cost of 250 million FCFA.
