Nahouri Commemorates Mandela Day with Activities Honoring Pô Prisoners

Nahouri: The governor of the Nazinon region, Massalado Yvette Nacoulma/Sanou, presided over the official ceremony for Nelson Mandela International Day in Pô, engaging in activities to honor prisoners for 72 hours. A significant donation of food to prisoners and the prison administration marked the observance.According to Burkina Information Agency, the celebration, held under the theme "The implementation of community service in Burkina Faso: roles of stakeholders and impacts on socio-economic development," took place at the Pô remand and correctional center. The event aimed to promote human dignity, respect for rights, and prepare prisoners for reintegration into society.Speakers at the event commended the institution for its efforts in organizing the day, emphasizing its role in reinforcing social connections within prisons. The inmates were encouraged to embody the philosophy of Nelson Mandela. The prisoners' representative voiced grievances, requesting faster processing of their files, effective exit permits, and the establishment of training workshops within the remand center.Governor Nacoulma, representing the Minister of Justice, praised the solidarity shown to the detainees and urged stakeholders to actively work towards realizing the theme's goals in Burkina. She highlighted the importance of community service in the penal system, aiming to give a more humane aspect to Burkina's prisons and transforming them into places of responsibility.During the 72-hour event, various recreational activities were organized for the inmates. Donations included one ton each of rice and corn, 20 20-liter cans of oil, and an envelope of 300,000 CFA francs from Pascal Tigahiri, President and CEO of Copia Fax. El Hadj Moussa Koanda, president of the Muslim community of Burkina, also contributed with a ton of rice and an additional 300,000 CFA francs.The NGO-ECO provided seeds for the prisoners, and Bepoadi Sinini, the Minister of Justice's chief of staff, emphasized the responsible use of these donations to build p risoners' confidence. The event was sponsored by notable figures from Naouri, including Maître Bouba Yaguibou, Pascal Tigahiri, and Samuel Tahoura of Tahoura Multi-Services.
