Rabat: The King of Morocco, His Majesty Mohammed VI, accompanied by Crown Prince Moulay El Hassan, inaugurated the Mohammed VI International University Hospital Complex in Rabat. This large-scale project aims to offer high-quality care and strengthen medical training in the Kingdom. The Sovereign also instructed the opening of the Mohammed VI University Hospital Center in Agadir, which is expected to serve as a center of medical excellence in the Souss-Massa region.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the Rabat complex, constructed by the Mohammed VI Foundation for Science and Health, spans 280,000 square meters and comprises two main entities: the Mohammed VI International University Hospital with a capacity of 600 beds extendable to 1,000, and the Mohammed VI University of Sciences and Health, which can accommodate 8,000 students. The facility is equipped with advanced technology such as Africa’s first PET-MRI device, a robotic surgery system, and an automated laboratory platform, focusing on patient care, teaching, and research.
The complex is committed to sustainability, having obtained the HQE “Excellent” certification, and utilizes solar energy for over 10% of its energy needs. Meanwhile, the Mohammed VI University Hospital in Agadir, built on 30 hectares with an investment of 3.1 billion dirhams, includes 867 beds, 19 operating theatres, and various specialized departments like cardiology, surgery, and mother-child care. It is the first African hospital to incorporate 3D robotic surgery and aims to benefit nearly 3 million people, helping to reduce regional disparities in healthcare access.
These developments reflect King Mohammed VI’s commitment to modernizing Morocco’s health system, training highly skilled medical professionals, and ensuring equitable access to healthcare nationwide.
