Ouagadougou: The Sufi community of Burkina Faso celebrated the birth of the Prophet Muhammad in the capital city on the night of November 1-2, 2025, focusing on the theme of acceptance and mutual respect as essential elements for achieving lasting peace in Burkina Faso.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the event, which was marked by prayers, readings of Quranic verses, and religious chants, also served as a moment of reflection on tolerance, fraternity, and the responsibility of believers in building lasting peace. During the celebration, Cheick Moaze Ouedraogo, the spiritual guide of the Sufi community, delivered a compelling message urging all Burkinabe, regardless of faith, to prioritize acceptance and mutual respect as vital components for maintaining the country's stability.
Cheick Moaze Ouedraogo emphasized the collective responsibility of peacebuilding, stating, "No one will bring us peace. It is up to us, as human beings, to build it, to live in it, and to benefit from it." He highlighted that peace is a shared endeavor and that everyone is a co-creator of peace. He further elaborated that mutual respect and acceptance of differences form the foundation of a harmonious society and sustainable development.
The spiritual leader questioned, "How can we build lasting peace without respecting each other, without accepting each other? If we accept each other, then we must respect each other," urging for collective awareness and action. Additionally, he shared his vision for world peace, which is rooted in solidarity among peoples and mutual understanding.
The celebration attracted many faithful from Burkina Faso and neighboring countries such as Ghana, Guinea, and Mali. The event was graced by the presence of the Grand Sheikh of the Tijaniyya community in Ghana, who led a delegation of over one hundred people. Representatives from other religious denominations also participated, showcasing unity and interreligious dialogue.
