Patriotic Movement for Development Launches Panel for Sourou Region’s Growth

Sourou: The Patriotic Movement for Development (MPD) launched a 48-hour panel on Saturday in Tougan aimed at laying the foundations for sustainable and harmonious development of the new Sourou region. The event is placed under the chairmanship of the governor of the Sourou and Bankui regions, Babo Pierre Bassinga, under the patronage of the Minister of Territorial Administration and Mobility, Emile Zerbo, and under the sponsorship of Commander Karim Souabo, senior officer of the National Armed Forces, Roland Achile Sow, president of the special consular delegation of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Burkina Faso, and Bachirou Terra, president of the consular delegation of Guiriko.

According to Burkina Information Agency, MPD President Mathieu Boro stated that this panel aims to reflect on the ideas and actions necessary for the harmonious construction and development of the new region. It brings together key stakeholders from the three provinces of Kossi, Nayala, and Sourou. "The MPD initiated this meeting in order to create a framework for exchanges and to encourage concrete actions for the development of our region, Sourou," he said.

Mr. Boro specified that, alongside the panel, several activities are planned, including a popular cross-country race, a market street, the lighting of the torch of patriotic commitment, as well as an artistic evening with the participation of local artists and others from elsewhere.

The governor of the Sourou and Bankui regions, Babo Pierre Bassinga, congratulated the initiators of "Sourou Welle-Kan" and all the organizers. He commended the active participation of the three provinces that make up the new Sourou region and urged residents to remain vigilant regarding the entry and exit of foreign nationals, and to report any suspicious activity to the appropriate authorities. He also stressed that the new Sourou region will reflect the commitment and determination of its sons and daughters, both those living there and those in the diaspora.

Note that the event began on Saturday, February 7, 2026, and will end on Sunday, February 8, 2026.
