Boussouma: The Minister of Justice, Edasso Rodrigue Bayala, obtained the support of His Majesty the Naaba Sigri, Dima of Boussouma, for the operationalization of the 'Faso Bu-kaoore' law during an exchange visit to the royal court. Bayala presented the law's content, which focuses on traditional dispute resolution mechanisms, and sought the blessings of the Dima, expressing his satisfaction with the reception of the initiative.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the Minister of Justice emphasized that "Faso Bu-kaoore" aims to legally recognize and regulate existing customary practices. The law is not intended to create new jurisdictions but to legitimize endogenous mechanisms that already play a role in conflict resolution. The minister noted that many disputes in the country are resolved through these mechanisms, and the law will strengthen peace and social cohesion by formally recognizing them.
Saambnaaba, the spokesperson for the Dima of Boussouma, praised the approach as unprecedented, highlighting its basis in consultation, respect, and listening to key actors. He assured the government of Naaba Sigri's support in implementing the law, emphasizing the longstanding tradition of using customs and traditions to resolve disputes.
Saambnaaba recalled the resilience of Boussouma's customary practices, which endured despite colonial efforts to change them. He noted that the legal recognition of decisions made by customary authorities marks a significant advancement.
Minister Bayala's visit is part of a broader tour for the application of law 003-3026/ALT concerning "Faso Bu-kaoore," adopted on January 14, 2026. The law's objective is to recognize and legally regulate practices deeply rooted in Burkinabe societies. Bayala also announced forthcoming consultations between traditional and modern justice actors to define their competencies and ensure complementarity for peace and social cohesion.
