Kouka: Students at Kouka A Public Primary School were introduced to the art of dyeing as part of new educational reforms focusing on local culture and skills. As part of the initiative, the school organized an event to teach students about dyeing the traditional Burkinabe loincloth known as 'Koko Donda'.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the event took place on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, and was attended by students, teachers, and members of the School Council. The school hall was transformed into a dyeing workshop, complete with basins of water, dyes, and white fabrics. The students were eager to learn from Isabelle Danem/Zagr©, a teacher and the dyer for the day, who shared her expertise on the significance and origins of the "Koko Donda" loincloth.
Students participated actively, with some dipping fabrics into dye vats and others tying loincloths to create patterns. The activity not only introduced them to traditional dyeing techniques but also encouraged creativity and entrepreneurship. The school's director, Pingdabamba Kabr©, emphasized the importance of preserving traditions and announced plans to adopt the "Koko Donda" as the school uniform next year.
The day concluded with an exhibition of the students' dyed loincloths, marking a successful and educational experience for all involved.
