Day of Customs and Traditions Celebrated in Sourou Province

Sourou: Followers of traditional religion celebrated the 3rd edition of the Day of Customs and Traditions (JCT) on Thursday, May 15, 2026, under the banner of social cohesion and the definitive return of peace and security to the province of Sourou and Burkina Faso.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the celebration took place in the traditional chiefdom district of Tougan, commonly known as Samogotchi, with the presence of the High Commissioner of the Sourou province, D©sir© Badolo, administrative, religious and military authorities, and many followers of the traditional religion.

The day featured ritual sacrifices of chickens, a goat, and an ox, alongside traditional dances intended to implore the ancestors for the lasting return of peace and security to Burkina Faso. Ousmane Lamoukri, the representative of the traditional leader, emphasized that these sacrifices also aim to request the protection of the country's authorities. 'We made sacrifices this morning to ask for the protection of our authorities and the definitive return of peace and security to our country,' he said.

Mr. Lamoukri also expressed gratitude to the government for establishing this day dedicated to customs and traditions. D©sir© Badolo, the High Commissioner of the Sourou province, indicated the celebration of this day holds the same importance as holidays observed by other religious denominations. 'The government has decided to formalize this day in the same way as the celebrations of other religions in order to allow followers of the traditional religion to come together, celebrate and make sacrifices so that our country remains standing despite the difficult context we are going through,' he stated.

Mr. Badolo expressed hope that the sacrifices made would contribute to the return of security, peace, social cohesion, and living together in the province of Sourou and in Burkina Faso.
