Kadiogo/Mental Health: The Positive Mentality Network Association Raises Awareness Among Young People in Ouagadougou

Kadiogo: The Positive Mentality Network Association organized a public awareness conference on youth mental health in Ouagadougou on Saturday, in order to draw attention to the psychological disorders that affect a part of Burkinabe youth and to promote better care for mental well-being.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the conference, held under the theme of youth mental health, gathered several dozen participants, including students, health professionals, and representatives from associations. The aim was to discuss the challenges related to stress, anxiety, depression, and social influences on the psychological balance of young people.

The organizers highlighted that the purpose of the activity was to raise awareness of the consequences of mental disorders, which are often ignored or trivialized in society, while encouraging young people to seek help in case of psychological difficulties.

Dr. Franck Malgoubri, a general practitioner and mental health trainer, led a presentation on the impact of the social environment on the mental health of adolescents and young adults. He emphasized that the family, school, or friendly environment plays a crucial role in the psychological development of young people.

Dr. Malgoubri also urged participants not to view psychological distress as a sign of weakness, stressing the importance of seeking professional help when difficulties become persistent.

Jessica Sambolgo, president of the Positive Mentality Network Association, stated that this initiative arose from the observation of the rise in psychological suffering among young people. She noted that many young people live in constant stress, anxiety, or loneliness without being able to talk about it, and the conference aimed to create a framework for listening, information, and awareness around these issues.

Some participants praised the organization of the conference, believing it helps to break down taboos around mental health and encourages young people to discuss their psychological difficulties.

Founded in December 2024, the Positive Mentality Network Association has over 200 members. It conducts awareness campaigns through conferences and social media initiatives to promote the mental well-being of young people.
