Burkina Faso’s New Doctoral School Director to Enforce High-Quality Thesis Regulations

Ouagadougou: The new director of the Doctoral School of Sciences and Technologies (ED-ST) at Joseph Ki-Zerbo University (UJKZ), Professor Lamine Zerbo, has committed to implementing regulations to ensure high-quality theses. Professor Zerbo, who was appointed on May 19, 2026, emphasized the importance of adhering to the guidelines that govern doctoral studies and the operations of doctoral schools.According to Burkina Information Agency, Professor Zerbo, an expert in mineral chemistry and materials chemistry, highlighted that his administration's focus will be on the quality of theses and enhancing activities in laboratories. He also outlined plans to improve doctoral students' work, support postdoctoral training, and train new lecturers for better supervision. Additionally, he intends to streamline thesis reporting for doctoral candidates nearing the completion of their studies.Deputy Director Ynoussa Maïga, also installed on the same day, emphasized the importance of supervising doctoral students and ad dressing their employability. He pointed out the need to adapt training programs to meet the country's specific challenges, including environmental, climate, and security issues, ensuring that doctoral research contributes to practical solutions for Burkina Faso, Africa, and beyond.In his address, former director Professor Balé Bayala reflected on his tenure, noting efforts made to enhance doctoral supervision, improve research conditions, and foster scientific collaboration.
