Efforts in Bogandé Lead to Destruction of Over 900 Mosquito Breeding Sites

Bogandé:The National Vector Control Days, phase 3, which took place from October 2 to 4, 2026, focused on identifying and destroying larval breeding sites in Bogandé. This initiative involved awareness-raising, sanitation, and vector control activities across six sectors within the municipality.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the efforts were led by the prefect, Aboubacar Sory, who represented the high commissioner of Gnagna. Operations extended to the large market and the Medical Center with a surgical unit in Bogandé. In total, 1,198 larval breeding sites were identified, of which 944 were destroyed, significantly reducing areas conducive to mosquito proliferation.

As part of the campaign to improve the living environment, teams collected 261 used tires and either cleared or sealed 135 puddles serving as potential mosquito breeding grounds. The Bogandé main market saw sanitation improvements through cleaning and garbage collection, and the grounds of the Medical Training Center were weeded to enhance its surroundings.

Vector control efforts also included space spraying at two priority sites, the gendarmerie's green zone and the Bogandé Medical Center. These actions aim to bolster community mobilization and encourage good hygiene and sanitation practices to prevent vector-borne diseases.

Local administrative officials have urged residents to continue their efforts by eliminating stagnant water, managing waste appropriately, and maintaining clean living environments. The final visit for the National Water and Sanitation Days is planned for November 6th and 7th.
