Tougan:OCADES Caritas Nouna organized an awareness and advocacy session focusing on eye health and the inclusion of people living with visual impairments. The event took place on Thursday, October 8, 2026, as part of the World Sight Day 2026 celebrations. The session was led by Wendyam Martial Ouédraogo, the Secretary General of Sourou Province, who represented the High Commissioner, Désiré Badolo.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the event was part of the KENEYELI-2 programme, implemented by OCADES Caritas Nouna in partnership with the Regional Health Directorate of the Bankui and Sourou regions. The initiative received financial support from Christoffel-Blindenmission (CBM Global) and aimed to promote awareness about eye conditions and the inclusion of people with disabilities.
The session, themed "Love your eyes," gathered local authorities, health workers, and individuals living with disabilities. Sister Toyin Cecilia Abegundé, coordinator of the community-based rehabilitation program, emphasized the importance of understanding different eye conditions and integrating disability considerations into local policies.
Dr. Bassirou Ouédraogo, the chief physician of the CMA of Tougan, highlighted the necessity of early detection for eye diseases, urging people to seek medical advice before experiencing pain.
Mamadou Zalla, a participant with a disability, praised the initiative and committed to spreading awareness about the importance of screening for eye diseases, stressing the crucial role of eye health in daily life.
Wendyam Martial Ouédraogo, representing the High Commissioner, applauded OCADES Caritas Nouna for selecting Sourou Province for this initiative and encouraged the dissemination of campaign messages to foster behavioral change regarding eye health and the inclusion of disabled individuals.
