Artisanal Miners in Bale Reforest Provincial Grove and Donate Cement to Faso Mebo

Boromo: The Burkina Federation of Artisanal Miners undertook a reforestation project in the provincial grove of Boromo. Artisanal miners, led by Jumeau Naaba, participated in this environmental effort, which took place on August 11, 2025. The initiative was in response to a call from High Commissioner Martin Bako for support in maintaining the grove.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the reforestation project saw over 300 medicinal plants being planted with guidance from forestry officers from the Bale Provincial Directorate of Water and Forests. Madi Sore, president of the federation, explained that the activity served as a reminder of the miners' social responsibility towards the environment and supported the state's regreening initiative led by Captain Ibrahim Traore.

El Hadj Sore, representing the federation, acknowledged the environmental impact of artisanal mining, noting the necessity for miners to plant trees regularly to compensate for those destroyed during mining activities. He emphasized that miners should replace every tree they remove with a new one.

Esae Bamogo, president of the special delegation of Boromo, highlighted that this was the federation's third reforestation activity in the area, aligning with local authorities' efforts to enhance the province's living environment. High Commissioner Martin Bako reminded miners of the government's closure of artisanal mining sites since June 30 for safety reasons and applauded both miners and forestry agents for their collaborative actions.

In a bid to sustain the grove's water supply, Jumeau Naaba committed to constructing an autonomous solar-powered borehole. Additionally, the miners' voluntary contribution resulted in a donation of 15 tonnes of cement to support the Faso Mebo initiative.
