Baby Elephant Discovered in Yaho Sparks Local Interest

Bale: A baby elephant less than a year old was found on the outskirts of the Yiezan district of Yaho on Sunday, November 9, 2025. The county water and forestry service was alerted and went to the site to examine and secure the pachyderm under the gaze of dozens of curious onlookers.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the animal was found alone by local residents venturing towards the houses. The first witnesses rushed to its aid, and then a crowd of onlookers surrounded it. The animal was led into a courtyard where a large crowd of visitors gathered. It is widely believed that the baby elephant came from the Grand-Bale forest. Indeed, the village of Yaho borders the Grand-Bale forest, where herds of elephants roam.

Local residents noted that elephants often make excursions into the fields at the edge of the forest. The baby elephant was placed under the protection of the departmental water and forestry service led by Lieutenant Thomas Kombassere so that urgent measures could be taken for the survival of the visibly exhausted and hungry animal.
