Bam’s Presidential Agricultural Initiative to Address Food Shortages

Ouagadougou: A large-scale agricultural offensive is set to commence soon in Bam, aimed at alleviating the population's food shortages. The special envoy to the Presidency of Faso for the Kulse region, Issa Lagvare, held a meeting on Sunday in Kongoussi with key figures from Bam to discuss the ongoing presidential initiatives. This agricultural offensive plans to develop 12.5 hectares of land in two communes of the province to ensure food self-sufficiency.

According to Burkina Information Agency, Lagvare informed the residents of Bam that the communes of Guibare and Tikare are actively involved in this agricultural initiative, which aligns with the food sovereignty movement advocated by the Head of State, Captain Ibrahim Traore. As part of this initiative, "25 young people are being recruited from each commune to develop these plots of land."

The mission officer highlighted that the Kulse region has seen substantial progress in implementing presidential programs, expanding from one commune to eight in the new phase. Issa Lagvare also discussed the presidential initiative Faso Mebo, encouraging the population to engage actively. He noted that the region currently ranks 8th nationally in terms of community engagement.

In addition, Dr. Moumini Zoungrana, a professor at Joseph Ki-Zerbo University, presented three lines of thought around neocolonialism during conflict, the role of citizens during crises, and the expected behavior of citizen vigilance committees (Wayiyans). He praised the committees' work and urged them to continue supporting the administration and the President of Burkina Faso.

The discussions provided participants with a better understanding of the root causes of the security crisis. At the conclusion of the meeting, participants commended the quality of the presentations and expressed concerns, particularly regarding the resettlement of displaced villages.
