Banwa High Commissioner Visits Rice Farmers to Promote Food Security Efforts

Banwa: The High Commissioner of the Banwa province, Sanfiénalé Joseph Sirima, conducted a field trip to inspect the 600 hectares of lowlands developed under the agro-pastoral and fishing initiative in the regions of Verasuy and Avionso.According to Burkina Information Agency, the rice farmers who benefited from complimentary ploughing services on 600 hectares of lowlands welcomed the province's top official around midday. Mr. Sirima, accompanied by several directors and department heads, as well as technicians from the Agriculture Department, visited the developed lowland of Sylver Coulibaly, located in Verasuy within the Solenzo commune.During his visit, Mr. Sirima expressed his commitment to combating hunger within the province. "I came to see how the work is progressing and to encourage you to do more to keep hunger out of our borders. I will be back in September for the harvest, so we must redouble our efforts," he stated. This particular lowland, spanning 75 hectares, is anticipated to yield 500 tonn es of rice by the end of the winter season.Sylver Coulibaly regarded the visit as a significant motivator, urging producers to transform the province into a substantial food supply hub for Faso. Following his stop in Verasuy, Mr. Sirima proceeded to Avionso, also located in the municipality of Solenzo, to gain insights into the challenges faced by local producers. Several hectares of farmland were inspected during his tour.
