Bougouriba Residents Engage in Conference on Traditions and Religion for Social Cohesion

Ouagadougou: The population absorbs the meaning of the Day of Customs and Traditions through a conference

The people of the commune of Iolonioro participated in a public conference centered on the theme "Traditions and religions: melting pot of peace and lasting social cohesion," as part of the preparations for the provincial celebration of the Day of Customs and Traditions (JCT) 2026. This event took place in the Iolonioro town hall's reception hall and included the involvement of administrative, traditional, and religious authorities, as well as numerous residents, following a march in support of the President of Burkina Faso, Captain Ibrahim Traore.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the presentation was delivered by Daniel Hien Da, a lawyer and specialist in peace and social cohesion matters. He began by clarifying the concepts of traditions, customs, and religions, before discussing their role in enhancing social cohesion. He highlighted that traditions are foundational to African values, such as courage, integrity, responsibility, and solidarity. He emphasized that Africans are inherently connected to their traditions, which reflect their history and relationships with nature and others.

The presenter also underscored the importance of valuing indigenous knowledge holders, who he described as crucial in maintaining social peace and cohesion among communities. In addressing religious aspects, Daniel Hien Da noted that religion provides answers to existential questions, including the meaning of life and the difference between good and evil.

He advocated for traditions and religions to serve as complementary forces, promoting peace, tolerance, and social cohesion. This conference is a part of efforts to mobilize and raise awareness among the population of the Bougouriba province, aiming for successful participation in the provincial celebration of the Day of Customs and Traditions, scheduled for May 15, 2026, in Iolonioro.
