Burkina: Denmark launches a CFAF 6.5 billion project in two regions

Ouagadougou, Denmark launched Tuesday, in Ouagadougou, the Community Resilience Project in the agro-sylvo-pastoral sector in Burkina (ResCom) to the tune of 6.5 billion FCFA, planned in the northern regions and the Boucle du Mouhoun.

According to the cooperation leader at the Danish Embassy in Burkina Faso, Ms. Dorrit Jensen, the community project in the agro-sylvo-pastoral sector in Burkina (ResCom) will reach 38,000 households including internally displaced people victims of terrorism.

According to her, the project will cover twelve municipalities in the Northern and Boucle du Mouhoun regions and will be financed by Denmark to the tune of 6.5 billion FCFA. It aims to strengthen the resilience of populations in the face of current climate and security challenges.

The project is led by a consortium of organizations that are the Netherlands Development Organization (SNV), the Danish Refugee Council (DRC) and Solidar / SOS Sahel international Burkina.

Ms. Dorrit Jensen explained that the project has a duration of 54 months and will be implemented in collaboration with other local partners, namely the Association formation development-rurality (AFDR) of the North and the Union of groupings for the marketing of agricultural products (UGCPA) from the Boucle du Mouhoun.

For her, ResCom will ensure the nutritional security of at least 11,000,400 households, of which at least 30% will have a diversified diet and 80% will see their income improved.

Ms. Dorrit Jensen also pointed out that 1,500 households will benefit from “adaptive” social safety nets in relation to the project.

To this end, the cooperation leader at the Danish Embassy noted that the project will impact 198,000 people, 50% of whom are women and 30% young people.

She added that the project will also reach 25,000 displaced people victims of terrorism and 6,000 host families.

“The challenges are enormous, we are aware of that. We remain convinced that convincing results will be achieved by the end of the project, ”she said.

According to him, since March 2021, his government has adopted a new 2021-2025 strategic framework for Burkina Faso which consists of strengthening peace, stability and the rule of law.

She indicated that the project aims to reduce poverty and inequalities for a better resilience of populations in Burkina, especially in the two regions.

“Through this instrument, Denmark is committed to supporting Burkina Faso in its development efforts,” added Ms. Dorrit.

According to the cabinet director of the Ministry in charge of Agriculture, Boukary Ouédraogo, the good cooperation between Burkina Faso and Denmark is visible through the setting up of the ResCom project for the benefit of the populations.

For Mr. Ouédraogo, fragile security and the effects of climate change have contributed to increasing household vulnerability and deteriorating nutritional status, food security and household livelihoods, especially internally displaced people.

He welcomed the fact that organizations steeped in experience, with a certain expertise in the field of assistance to populations affected by conflicts, are working in synergy to defend the cause of vulnerable people.

“I would like to take this opportunity to express my gratitude to these technical and financial partners who support us in the implementation of this vast development project,” concluded Mr. Ouédraogo.
