Ouagadougou: The Minister of State for Agriculture, Commander Ismael Sombie, representing the Prime Minister, inaugurated the 15th edition of the Ouagadougou International Tourism and Hospitality Fair (SITHO) on Thursday in the Burkinabe capital. This year's event aims to leverage tourism as a means of fostering integration among the peoples of the Sahel region.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the 15th Ouagadougou International Tourism and Hospitality Fair (SITHO) is scheduled to take place from September 25-28, 2025, with the theme "Tourism and Integration of the Peoples of the Sahel." The Prime Minister's speech, delivered by the Minister of Communication, Culture, Arts and Tourism, Gilbert Pingdwende Ouedraogo, emphasized the significance of the event as a demonstration of resilience and sovereignty despite challenging times. The head of government asserted that Burkina Faso remains steadfast, innovative, and open to global engagement.

Mr. Ouedraogo highlighted that the Sahel states have adopted culture and tourism as foundational elements for establishing the "Confederation" space. He stated that reinforcing cultural identity and authenticity is crucial for the region's contribution to building a fairer world. He believes that tourism can unite the Sahelian peoples by transcending artificial borders, promoting intercultural dialogue, and fostering understanding and solidarity.

He encouraged citizens to "rediscover their own country, marvel at its treasures in order to become the first ambassadors of their heritage," through SITHO. Special guest countries Mali and Niger have honored their status with a robust delegation presence at this edition of SITHO.

Guichen Aghaichata Atta, Minister of Crafts and Tourism of Niger, representing the special guests, described SITHO as more than just a platform for tourism promotion. She emphasized its role as a hub for exchange, rapprochement, mutual understanding, and the creation of a shared identity. She noted that the event provides an opportunity to advance the collective goal of reconstruction and sovereignty shared by Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger.

Ghana, the guest of honor, expressed pride in participating in this cultural and tourism festival. Joseph K. Amoah, Chief of Staff of the Minister of Tourism of Ghana, assured that Ghana will actively participate and contribute significantly to all planned activities. He remarked that the event would help showcase the nations' cultural heritage and history to both the Sahel region and the wider world.

The 15th edition of SITHO, featuring Nakambe as the guest of honor region, is dedicated to promoting tourism as a tool for the integration of Sahelian peoples in the Burkinabe capital.
