Crackdown on Anarchic Occupation of Public Space in Sapouy and Ziro

Tapoa: A crackdown on the anarchic occupation of public space: The Special Delegation of the municipality of Sapouy, supported by the National Police, Volunteers for the Defense of the Homeland (VDP), and citizen watch groups, led an eviction operation this Saturday around the large market and along National Route No. 6 (RN6), a vital corridor through the city.

According to Burkina Information Agency, this initiative is aimed at combatting unauthorized occupation of public spaces, particularly on the heavily trafficked RN6, which connects several towns in the region. Local officials stated that the operation enforces a regulation requiring businesses to maintain a mandatory two-meter setback from the roadway. This measure is intended to facilitate traffic flow and prevent accidents.

During the operation, teams engaged in discussions with businesses to raise awareness about the importance of adhering to these regulations. Authorities emphasized that compliance is crucial for maintaining public order, ensuring road safety, and protecting lives. They also issued warnings about penalties for repeat offenders.

The citizen watchdog expressed its commitment to supporting municipal authorities in implementing these decisions effectively. Mr. Pousga Kabor©, Secretary General of the Town Hall, representing the President of the Special Delegation (PDS), called on citizens to demonstrate civic responsibility and adhere strictly to public space regulations.

The operation successfully cleared the right-of-way on National Route 6 near the market, improving traffic flow in this critical area of the municipality. Municipal authorities announced that they would continue checks in the coming days to ensure the rigorous and sustained enforcement of these measures.

It is noteworthy that the eviction operation follows a prolonged period of awareness-raising efforts that failed to yield the desired outcomes.
