Death of the Emir of Djibo: Government Honors Legacy of Dialogue and Peace

Ouagadougou: The government paid tribute Thursday, in a statement, to the memory of His Majesty the Emir of Djibo, Boubakari Dicko, a man of dialogue and peace, who died Wednesday in Ouagadougou following an illness.

According to Burkina Information Agency, His Majesty the Emir of Djibo was a man attached to tradition and resolutely committed to social cohesion within Djelgodji and the Soum region. In its statement, the Burkinabe government paid tribute to the Emir, describing him as a man of dialogue, deeply rooted in the traditions he considered a pillar of national identity. The government expressed that his passing is an immense loss for the nation.

Local authorities, community leaders, and several prominent figures also paid tribute to his memory. The High Commissioner of the Djelgodji province, Wend-Nere Wilfried Tougma, and the President of the Special Delegation of the Djibo Commune, Hubert Drabo, as well as the President of Tabital Pulaaku Burkina, expressed their sadness, highlighting the loss of a respected leader and fervent advocate of living together.

For High Commissioner Wend-Nere Wilfried Tougma, the Emir leaves behind a moral and spiritual legacy that will continue to guide future generations. Hubert Drabo noted that this loss represents an immeasurable void for the entire Soum region.

As a reminder, His Majesty Boubakari Dicko passed away on Wednesday, November 19th in Ouagadougou, following an illness, after nearly four decades on the throne. His burial is scheduled for this Thursday afternoon in Djibo.
