Ganzourgou: The driving forces of Ganzourgou province met on April 18, 2025, in Zorgho, under the chairmanship of the province's High Commissioner, Aminata Sorgho/Gouba, for a consultation on the issue of sanitation in towns and villages. This meeting is part of Burkinabe Heritage Month and aims to build a collective strategy for sustainable sanitation, in line with civic and patriotic values.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the activity brought together more than a hundred participants from different municipalities in the province, including members of the Village Development Committees (CVD), neighborhood and village delegates, prefects, customary, religious, and community leaders, as well as five women per municipality. The objective was clear: to reflect together on concrete actions to improve sanitation in the localities of Ganzourgou.
Ms. Sorgho/Gouba recalled the national context marked by the days of patriotic commitment, during which citizens are invited to take simple but significant actions for the common good. She deplored the lack of involvement of the entire population in the efforts toward sanitation, noting that it is mainly civil servants who are involved in cleaning activities. She therefore stressed the need to involve all social strata to build collective momentum.
The President of the Zorgho Special Delegation (PDS), Valentin Badolo, welcomed this initiative. He emphasized that the municipality has already established a hygiene police force, whose actions will be marked by strong sanctions to combat unsanitary conditions. He also encouraged participants to fully commit to the success of the strategy currently being developed.
Recommendations from the consultation include the designation of official garbage disposal sites, the appointment of hygiene officers in each village and neighborhood, the development of regular cleaning schedules, and the organization of a competition between sectors to promote hygiene and sanitation. Supervisory outings will be organized by the High Commissioner and the PDS in the various localities to encourage and monitor the implementation of the actions.
The meeting was also an opportunity to launch a strong call for women's involvement. A fundraising campaign was proposed, at a rate of 100 CFA francs per woman in the province, to finance the construction of toilets at the Zorgho Medical Center with Surgical Unit (CMA), where the maternity ward currently shares the same latrines as the pediatric ward. Part of this contribution will also be used to purchase motorcycles to support the Defense and Security Forces (FDS) and the Volunteers for the Defense of the Homeland (VDP) in their mission to secure the territory.
The High Commissioner emphasized that this type of initiative must first rely on local efforts. According to her, the call for goodwill will only complement the actions initiated by the populations themselves. She reaffirmed her hope in the ability of women and communities to mobilize for endogenous and sustainable solutions. This meeting thus marks an important step towards a cleaner, more united province, resolutely committed to its development and security.
