Government Dissolves Burkina Faso’s National Youth Council

Ouagadougou: The Council of Ministers has adopted a decree to dissolve the National Youth Council of Burkina Faso (CNJ-BF). This decision was announced on Thursday, marking the end of the council established in 2018 to serve as the umbrella organization for youth associations and organizations in the country.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the CNJ-BF was created to ensure the representation and participation of youth in the design, implementation, and evaluation of development policies and programs. Despite receiving state support, the council has faced operational issues for over a year. These issues include the non-renewal of its bodies, leading to a deadlock despite the ministry in charge of public freedoms and the department in charge of Youth's efforts to resolve the situation.

The government cited these irregularities as a violation of CNJ-BF's statutes and decided to dissolve the council to pave the way for a new organization. The government aims to establish an association that is more inclusive and consensual to better serve the youth of Burkina Faso.
