Bamako: The President of Mali, Army General Assimi Goita, affirmed on Monday that health remains an essential pillar of national development, by officially launching the Presidential Emergency Hospital Project, intended to thoroughly modernize the country's health system with 15 new hospitals. The groundbreaking ceremony was held at the Korofina Reference Health Center (CSREF), in Commune I of the District of Bamako, in the presence of the Prime Minister, the President of the National Transition Council, several members of the government, the diplomatic corps and Mali's technical and financial partners.
According to Burkina Information Agency, President Assimi Goita stressed that the Presidential Emergency Hospital Project embodies his vision of a "Mali Koura" based on health, dignity and the sovereignty of the people. 'Health remains a cornerstone of Mali Koura. All activity depends on health, because without it, no development is possible,' he declared, emphasizing that national prosperity hinges on healthy citizens and modern medical infrastructure.
The Head of State called for rigorous implementation of the project, stressing the importance of maintaining public services throughout the construction period and strictly adhering to contractual deadlines. He also urged the Ministry of Health to ensure the human dimension of the initiative, which aims above all to bring quality care closer to the population and to reduce medical evacuations to the capital or abroad.
The Presidential Emergency Hospital Project is an unprecedented program to modernize the national hospital system. Fully funded by the state budget, it provides for the construction of 15 new hospitals and the transformation of the Bamako District's Reference Health Centers (CSREF) into fully functional district hospitals. These facilities will be equipped with modern medical equipment and specialized services, including hemodialysis units.
The Minister of Health and Social Development, Colonel-Major Assa Badiallo Toure, hailed this initiative as "historically significant," following on from the National Health Conference held in 2024 and reflecting the President's commitment to making health a fundamental right for all Malians. With this project, President Assimi Goita intends to lay the foundations for a sovereign and equitable healthcare system capable of ensuring the protection, dignity, and well-being of every citizen.
