Media Professionals Unite to Strengthen Social Cohesion in Mouhoun

Mouhoun: Media professionals are working together to strengthen social cohesion and community spirit. Media professionals from the Bankui region held the first session of their regional consultation framework for 2025 on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, in Dedougou. The theme of the session was "The Role of the Media in Promoting Social Cohesion and Living Together in the Region." The proceedings were chaired by the Bankui Regional Director of Communication, Sinaly Djibo.

According to Burkina Information Agency, journalists, communicators, and heads of professional media organizations gathered on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, in Dedougou to discuss the challenges of their role in consolidating peace and social cohesion. The regional director in charge of Communication for Bankui, Sinaly Djibo, praised the commitment of media actors in promoting unity and solidarity, emphasizing the press's essential role in building a peaceful and resilient society. He urged participants to continue efforts towards responsible and constructive communication to prevent community tensions and promote living together.

The Special Education Inspector, Hamidou Bambara, presented an introductory communication on the topic, serving at the regional directorate of humanitarian action and national solidarity in Bankui. In a national context marked by security and humanitarian challenges, he highlighted the media's central role in promoting peace, social cohesion, and living together. Hamidou Bambara outlined different forms and sources of conflict, stressing the media's responsibility to inform objectively, educate about citizenship, and serve as a framework for dialogue and mediation between populations.

The discussions covered topics related to journalistic ethics, management of sensitive information, and communication strategies in times of crisis. Discussions identified potential courses of action to strengthen collaboration between media and community actors to achieve better social cohesion. Participants recognized the need to develop a regional media ethics charter to guide professional practices and promote quality information free from hate speech. They agreed to conduct joint awareness campaigns on peace and solidarity and reaffirmed their commitment to promoting social stability and local development.

The next session, planned for the coming months, will evaluate actions taken and further strengthen synergies between different media outlets in the region.
