Nayala: A public conference on citizenship, patriotic commitment, and social cohesion was organized by the Regional Directorate for Human Rights and the Promotion of Citizenship and Peace of the Bankui and Sourou regions in Toma. The conference, held on May 29, 2026, focused on promoting a culture of peace and strengthening national unity.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the event was presided over by Adama Diallo, Secretary General of the Nayala province, representing the High Commissioner of the province. Participants included civil society organizations, citizen watch movements, and various administrative, customary, and religious authorities, alongside the constituted bodies of the province.
Dakoupa Diarra, the regional director, explained that the conference was part of the 2026 annual activity plan of his directorate, aiming to disseminate messages discussed in previous regional conferences in D©dougou, Nouna, and Tougan. He emphasized the importance of reinforcing citizenship values and a culture of peace to address the ongoing security, humanitarian, and social challenges in the country.
Adama Diallo highlighted the critical period Burkina Faso is experiencing and called for the transformation of patriotic devotion into tangible actions that contribute to development. He urged citizens to prioritize the common good and actively participate in consolidating peace, while honoring the memory of those affected by the security crisis.
The main presentation by F©licit© Bonkoungou covered citizenship, patriotic commitment, a culture of peace, and social cohesion. She defined these concepts and stressed the importance of active participation, love of country, dialogue, tolerance, and harmonious relationships based on solidarity and human rights.
To ensure clarity, a translation into the San language was provided, which was appreciated by the attendees. The conference facilitated discussions on various concerns, such as the role of sanctions in promoting citizenship and the integration of human rights education into schools.
Organizers emphasized the importance of awareness as a preventive measure and the roles of family, school, media, and authorities in instilling civic values. Participants were encouraged to act as ambassadors of awareness and unity in their communities.
The conference concluded with a strong call for unity, civic responsibility, and collective commitment towards a peaceful, cohesive Burkina Faso.
