Sanctioned by the EU, Nathalie Yamb Finds Comfort in Niamey

Niamey: After being sanctioned by the Council of the European Union, Pan-African activist Nathalie Yamb finds compassion and encouragement from the Nigerien authorities, as she emphasized to the press. Following an audience with the President of the Republic of Niger, Army General Abourahamane Tiani, the Swiss-Cameroonian activist and influencer declared: "I have just been received by the Army General, Head of State, the President of the Republic and of the CNSP following the sanctions that the Council of the European Union has taken against me."

According to Burkina Information Agency, Nathalie Yamb was sanctioned by the EU "for her pro-Russian activities and positions," as stated in the Official Journal of the European Union. These sanctions include an entry ban and a freeze on her assets within the EU. Since participating in the Russia-Africa summit in Sochi in 2019, Yamb has "openly supported Russia, adopting Moscow's language and targeting France and the West in particular, with a view to ousting them from the African continent," as the EU further accuses.

In the face of these sanctions, Ms. Yamb declared on Monday that she is not giving in. "I came to tell the Head of State, the people of Niger and the people of the AES that these sanctions have not brought me down," declared the pan-African activist. The sanctions "are confirmation that I am in the right fight, that we are in the right fight, that I have no intention of succumbing to the violence induced by the sanctions that have been taken, that for me, it is an encouragement to move forward," she said.

Yamb expressed her gratitude upon hearing from President Tiani and the members of the CNSP, who thanked her for her ongoing efforts and assured her of their continued support. This support has emboldened her resolve to persist in her activism, which she describes as a joint effort with Nigerien authorities to achieve victory.
