Somalick’s Festival: Samorogouan Celebrates the Memory of Ancestors and the Deceased

Samorogouan: The commune of Samorogouan celebrated the "Sangaba," or grand annual funeral, from May 12 to 17, 2026, through the CHEBO/SOMALICK'S festival. This traditional festival allows people to pay homage to their ancestors and marks the beginning of agricultural work.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the edition was attended by the Minister of Homeland Construction, Mikalou Sidibe, and the Minister of Servants of the People, Mathias Traore, who represented the Minister of State, Minister of Agriculture, Water, Animal and Fisheries Resources, Commander Isma«l Sombie, the patron of the ceremony.

In his message, Commander Isma«l Sombie called on the population to support the Defense and Security Forces as well as the Volunteers for the Defense of the Homeland (VDP). He also praised the cultural diversity and harmonious coexistence between the different communities living in Samorogouan.

The ceremony's sponsor, Lassina Yiriba Traore, recalled the importance of traditional music and dance in the lives of the communities of Samorogouan. The "Sangaba" festivals allow people to pay homage to the deceased and pray for a good agricultural season. The festivities were marked by cultural performances, traditional dances, and parades from the various communities of the commune.

The closing evening was marked by a cultural night, shows, and a dance party to the sound of balafons. On this occasion, moving testimonies were given to Soma Barro and Malick Traore, two sons of Samorogouan who disappeared, whose names together form the name SOMALICK'S.
