Suspension of the August 4th Stadium Leads to Over 46 Billion CFA Francs in Costs for Relocated Matches

Ouagadougou: Burkina Faso spent 46,175,818,403 CFA francs on its relocated matches after the suspension of the August 4 Stadium in 2020, the Minister in charge of sports, Roland Somda, told the Transitional Legislative Assembly (ALT) on Tuesday. Responding to the oral question from MP Marie Angele Tiendrebeogo on the cost of the Stallions' relocated matches since the suspension of the August 4th stadium in 2020 until its rehabilitation in 2025, the Minister of Sports, Youth and Employment Roland Somda indicated that the costs amount to 46,175,818,403 FCFA for all categories of the Stallions.

According to Burkina Information Agency, Somda specified that "since the suspension of the August 4th stadium, from 2020 to 2025, the Stallions A have played an average of 14 matches, with a cost of approximately 500 million FCFA per match. This sum is distributed as follows: 30% for transport and organization costs, 20% for accommodation and catering, and 50% for bonuses."

Following the suspension of the August 4th Stadium, nearly 15 billion CFA francs were used for its rehabilitation. On July 1, 2025, the governing body of African football, the Confederation of African Football (CAF), officially recognized the Burkinabe football stadium with recommendations, and several international matches have since been played there.
