Ashgabat: The Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Turkmenistan condemned, in a statement released Friday, the US airstrikes that occurred overnight on September 1-2, 2026, against a wedding ceremony in Kouhestak, southern Iran. It also denounced the silence of international organizations and human rights defenders in the face of these US attacks against civilians.According to Burkina Information Agency, citing a Red Crescent representative, the strikes killed at least five people and injured 68. Many of the injured were reportedly children, who were taken to hospitals in Sirik and Minab.The statement from the Iranian diplomatic mission in Turkmenistan described the attack as a "barbaric" act by the American regime targeting a family celebration in Kouhestak, Sirik district, Hormozgan province, Iran.The embassy asserted that "dozens of innocent civilians were killed and injured" during the attack. It emphasized that the strike was a "flagrant violation of international humanitarian law and norms, " and categorized it as a "glaring example of crimes against humanity."The embassy further criticized the inaction of international organizations and human rights defenders, suggesting that their silence "will only encourage the aggressor to continue its atrocities against humanity and to repeat such crimes."
