Dori: The educational community of Wendou High School established the governing bodies of the school council on Wednesday in Dori during a general assembly. This meeting, which brought together teachers, students, and parents, marks an important step in the implementation of the new school governance in Burkina Faso.
According to Burkina Information Agency, in a friendly atmosphere, the participants proceeded to elect the executive board and the oversight committee of the School Council. These structures will be tasked with coordinating the activities of the high school and ensuring participatory, transparent, and accountable management of school resources and initiatives.
At the conclusion of the proceedings, Hama Boureima was elected head of the executive committee of the Wendou high school council. His team is composed of thirteen members representing the various components of the educational community. The oversight committee, meanwhile, has three members responsible for ensuring good governance and compliance of actions carried out by the executive office.
This setup was preceded by the presentation of the moral and financial report of the outgoing Parents' Association (APE), whose efforts were praised by the assembly. Since March 2025, the School Council has been the new structure for community participation in the management of schools, replacing the old organizations such as PTAs (Parents' Associations), EMTs (Educator Mothers' Associations), and SME Management Committees.
This system is structured around three main bodies: the general assembly, the executive board, and the oversight committee. Its funding comes from several sources, including contributions to school life (CVE), donations, and grants. At each level (municipal, provincial, regional, and national), committees ensure the coordination, monitoring, and capacity building of school councils.
The principal of the high school, Alima Ouedraogo/Sanou, praised the strong mobilization of the educational community and encouraged the new leaders to work in a spirit of collaboration and transparency. For his part, the new chairman of the school council, Mr. Hama Boureima, expressed his gratitude for the trust placed in his team and invited educational stakeholders to support the newly installed bodies in order to meet the challenges of the high school together.
With the effective establishment of its school council, the Wendou high school is aligning itself with the national movement to strengthen educational governance. This new, inclusive, and participatory approach should allow for greater involvement of all stakeholders in school life and contribute to improving the quality of education in the Sahel.
