Burkina Faso: The Yennenga School Medical Center Opens Its Doors to the Public to Promote Health Services

Ouagadougou: The Yennenga School Medical Center (CMS) in Ouagadougou launched its open days on Friday to promote health services, an initiative aimed at bringing people closer to healthcare services and strengthening awareness of good health practices. The opening ceremony brought together the presidents of the special delegations of districts No. 1 and No. 2, health officials, customary and religious authorities, as well as the inhabitants of Kamsonghin.According to Burkina Information Agency, the chief physician of the Yennenga School Medical Centre, Dr. Lamine Koara, stated that these days provide a framework for raising awareness and providing information on the various services offered by the health facility. "The days we are opening today will equip communities and their children with information on the services offered by the Yennenga School Medical Centre, the best practices to adopt for sustainable health, and the need for strong social mobilization in support of school health," he said.Dr. Koara noted that the Yennenga CMS covers sector 4 of Kamsonghin as well as the schools in districts 1 and 2 of the municipality of Ouagadougou. The head of the center also specified that the services offered include, among other things, medical and nursing consultations, prenatal consultations, family planning, vaccination, a dialogue space for young people as well as medical visits for pupils and students.During these 48 hours of activities, several services will be offered, including screening for high blood pressure, diabetes, women's cancers (cervical and breast cancer), sexually transmitted infections, and the provision of contraceptive methods. A conference on screen addiction will also be organized. The chief medical officer invited administrative, customary and religious authorities as well as community actors to support the center's actions in order to improve the use of health services and promote the well-being of the population.For the occasion, the representative of the ceremony's sponsor, the Naab a of Garghin, praised an initiative that contributes to the promotion of the health of students and the entire community. He recalled the historical importance of Yennenga, formerly known as "Yennenga Maternity," an iconic structure in the Kamsonghin district that has seen the birth of several generations of its inhabitants.'Promoting school health is a collective responsibility that requires everyone's commitment. Together, we can build a healthy, safe and supportive environment for our children's success,' he said. The representative of the sponsor also expressed his gratitude to the officials of the Yennenga School Medical Centre, the local authorities, the members of the Management Committee (COGES) as well as the partners for their contribution to the organisation of these days.According to him, thanks to this initiative, many students, parents and citizens will take greater ownership of the services of the Yennenga School Medical Centre and adopt behaviours that are favorable to preserving their hea lth. It is worth noting that five winners received prizes following a competition on family planning which brought together more than 50 participants.
