Justice: The Koudougou High Court Brings Its Services Closer to the People of Pouni

Pouni: The High Court (TGI) of Koudougou held a mobile court hearing on June 18 and 19, 2026, in the commune of Pouni, with a view to bringing justice closer to litigants: 18 correctional cases and 27 civil status requests were processed.

According to Burkina Information Agency, during the correctional hearing on June 18, 20 cases were registered. The Vice-President of the Koudougou High Court, Danon Alassane B©n©, stated that 18 judgments were handed down in court, while two others were reserved for the ordinary hearing on July 6, 2026, in Koudougou.

The magistrate emphasized the predominance of cases related to traffic accidents, often marked by manslaughter. This observation was shared by the Deputy Prosecutor at the Koudougou High Court, Ali Sidib©, who expressed alarm that "98% of the cases handled are related to road accidents." He concluded that this reflects a disregard for the highway code by road users and stressed the need to raise awareness among the population to preserve human lives, deploring the tragic nature of these accidents for families and society.

Taking advantage of this platform, the Public Prosecutor's Office reiterated the provisions of the Penal Code in force since 2018 concerning accusations of witchcraft. Sidib© specified that the law punishes accusations of witchcraft with a prison sentence ranging from one to five years, with aggravating circumstances that can increase the sentence to five to ten years in cases of social exclusion or violence.

Regarding the hearing on applications held on June 19, 32 cases concerning corrections to civil status records (birth, marriage, death) were examined. Of these, 27 were decided on the spot and 5 others were referred to chambers due to their complexity. Due to the lack of mobile printing equipment on site, the Vice-President informed litigants that civil judgments would be available at the Pouni town hall. He also emphasized the crucial importance of civil registration, reminding them that a person's first document is their birth certificate, and errors in this document will affect all subsequent documents.

For application files, users will be able to collect their documents at the Pouni town hall from Friday, June 26, or directly at the Koudougou High Court from Thursday, June 25 for those closest. This judicial mission demonstrates the willingness of the judicial authorities of Koudougou to facilitate access to rights and to decongest the courts while serving the people as closely as possible.

During these two days of hearings, the judicial team dispatched by the Koudougou High Court examined a total of 52 cases.
